While it may seem dated today, it was extremely advanced for its time. System Shock is one of the earliest examples of a fully 3-D environment. The story progression is second to none and proved first-person shooters could offer more than mindless entertainment. Even to this day, System Shock's storytelling is still extremely impressive, giving players one of the most gripping experiences in gaming history. The game immerses players in its riveting story, captivating them in a way very few games can. This might be commonplace nowadays, but in 1994, it was revolutionary. Instead of going through linear levels blasting everything in sight, players had to traverse an open-ended space station piecing together clues on how SHODAN came to power. The way System Shock presented its narrative changed the way many people look at FPS storytelling.
